Candyland
by Milton Bradley
Level: Intermediate
Description: As with Chutes and Ladders, we recommend deciding to ignore the penalty spaces. If you draw a candy card that moves you backwards, choose to "eat" the candy instead of moving back. Play till everyone finishes, not just the winner. These suggestions help make playing this simple game much less stressful and more reinforcing. Initially, the game should reward, not disappoint. You can gradually introduce the penalty spaces to teach tolerance for change in rules and disappointment. Remember, we don't advocate avoiding life's challenges. What we do advocate is thoughtfully building up our learner's coping skills, so the challenges don't immediately overwhelm them and cause a hasty retreat.
