Social Skills and Board Games

Our favorite games are ones that build on existing or emerging skills and help you use these skills in a social context. Make sure you adapt the rules (bend them and break them) to fit your learner's skills. Remember with any turn taking games, keep your expectations reasonable at first. For some learners, one or two turns is an excellent starting point. Don't feel compelled to push the game to a preset conclusion. Build up slowly. Board games are a wonderful opportunity to create predictable social environments. Our learners can learn to root for other children, have success not dependent on someone else's failure, and learn turn taking, waiting and predictable social rules. Here are our favorite games:
